Lake Buena Vista, FL- It was a rainy day in the sunshine state as the Orlando City Lions took on the Orange County Blues at the Wide World of Sports Complex. Orlando came into the match riding a 13 game win streak, while the OC Blues were coming into the game at 5-7. The spark plug for the lions has been mid fielder Kevin Molino with nine goals and five assists on the season. The Blues looked to stop him with Josh Ford, goal keeper on loan from the Seattle Sounders.
It was a tale of two halves. In the first half, Orlando City looked tired and were slow to the ball. Orange County scored the first goal of the match in the 37th minute by No. 16 Jiovanni Santana. It took extra time for the Lions to tie it up with a goal by Corey Hertzog in the 45th and 1st minute of extra time. Coach Adrian Heath was not pleased with their first half performance and let them know about it during halftime. Both Brad Rusin and the coaching staff mentioned his speech in the post game press conference as the reason for the team's second half turn around.
It took no time for Orlando to get going in the second half, with a goal just four minutes after play began. That was Austin Da Luz with a tricky little shot that skipped just passed the keeper's arm. The night would only get worse for the Blues as the Lions began to play like themselves again. The shots kept coming for OCSC, and soon the flood gates opened. At 79' minutes in, Brad Rusin scored his first goal of the season, but he wasn't done yet. Eight minutes later, he made it a double with a light tap off the front of his foot into the back of the net for Orlando City's fourth goal of the match. That would be the dagger, as the Lions would win 4-1.
"We came out in the second half and took it to them. We played hard and scored a couple goals in the end." Said Rusin on the team's performance.
It was a solid first half for the Orange County, but then Orlando cruised to a comfortable lead. With the win they tied the franchise record streak of 14 wins and remain atop the U.S.L.PRO. Their next match will be this Tuesday June 17th, against the Colorado Rapids in Colorado.
