ACC universities have made a positive impact in their communities throughout the college football season, including in-game recognition of local teaches, testimonials from coaches and student-athletes supporting teachers aired on social media, and select classroom project requests funded through DonorsChoose.org, a crowdfunding platform that allows teachers to request school supplies for their classrooms.
Extra Yard for Teachers programming will also be a focus before and during the weekend of the Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game, slated for Saturday, December 2, at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
- On Monday, November 27, the funding of DonorsChoose.org projects will take place in Charlotte and in the communities of the Atlantic and Coastal Division Champions.
- On Friday, December 1, the ACC mascots will participate in a pep rally at a Charlotte school, selected as part of the conference’s partnership with United Way of Central Carolinas. Students from four additional schools that participated in the ACC United Way Reading Challenge will also attend. The ACC will present DonorsChoose.org gift cards to the principals of each school and to select teachers in recognition of their participation.
- On Saturday, December 2, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Teacher of the Year finalists will be invited to attend the Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game. The finalists will be recognized on the field and each presented DonorsChoose.org gift cards.
“The support we have received from the ACC and its members has been extraordinary, for which we are very grateful,” said Britton Banowsky, CFP Foundation Executive Director. “We are also pleased to be able to focus our attention on the amazing work of the teachers in Charlotte in conjunction with the Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game.”
“The impact and value of teachers is immeasurable,” said ACC Commissioner John Swofford. “We are proud to partner with the College Football Playoff Foundation to honor educators and provide much-needed resources. We look forward to celebrating and empowering teachers in our communities throughout the Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game weekend.”
