The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed first-year wide receiver Jeremy Ebertand rookie wide receivers Tobais Palmer and Lamaar Thomas along with first-year defensive tackle Jordan Millerto the club’s practice squad. Rookie cornerback Marcus Burley and first-year defensive end Chris McCoy were waived from the practice squad.
Ebert has been on the 53-man roster for the Jaguars the last three games and has two receptions for 10 yards. He was a seventh-round draft pick of New England in 2012 and spent time on the Patriots’ practice squad. He played in 49 games with 32 starts at Northwestern where he finished with 173 career receptions for 2,400 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Palmer was signed to the Jaguars active roster last Saturday and made his NFL debut against the Indianapolis Colts. He played two seasons at North Carolina State where he started 20 games, recording 91 receptions for 1,277 yards and 11 touchdowns. He began his career at Georgia Military College.
Thomas, 6-0, 185, was signed as an undrafted rookie by Denver in 2013 and spent the preseason with the club before he was waived on final cuts. He played in 39 career games with 10 starts at New Mexico from 2011-12 after transferring from Ohio State where he spent the 2008-09 seasons. Playing in New Mexico’s triple-option offense, Thomas posted a team-high 15 catches for 165 yards and one touchdown as a senior and rushed for 220 yards on 31 carries. He saw action in 23 games for the Buckeyes where he played wide receiver and kick returner. He also competed in track at both schools. Thomas is a native of Ft. Washington, Maryland where he attended Friendly High School.
Miller, 6-1, 316, spent the 2013 preseason with Green Bay before he was waived on final cuts. He was signed to Kansas City’s practice squad on Sept. 10 and waived on Sept. 21. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Chicago Bears in 2011 where he spent the first 16 weeks on the club’s practice squad before he was signed to the active roster for the final regular season game and the postseason. Miller was signed by the Packers on Oct. 23, 2012, where he spent time on the active roster and practice squad. The Marlboro, Maryland native was a three-year letterman at Southern University after initially joining the program as a walk-on. He finished his career with 90 tackles, 15.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble in 31 games.
