"College football is truly a part of the fabric of our society, and it has played an integral role in the education of millions of student-athletes over the years. The Foundation has always provided those who love the game a way to give back, and as we celebrate our 70th Anniversary, I want to thank the tens of thousands of members of our organization who have played a role during the past seven decades."
Founded by a group of passionate supporters, the NFF has always garnered backing from our nation's top leaders, including early contributors General Douglas MacArthur, legendary Army coach Earl "Red" Blaik and the prolific journalist Grantland Rice, who served as the organization's first president from 1948 to 1952.The NFF has developed into a leading non-profit educational organization that runs programs designed to use the power of amateur football in developing scholarship, citizenship and athletic achievement in young people.
Over the past seven decades, the NFF has inducted 987 players and 214 coachesinto the College Football Hall of Fame, including the upcoming 2017 Class. The organization has also distributed more than $30 million in scholarships, including $11.1 million to 828 individuals via the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards, presented by Fidelity Investments, and another $20 million through its nationwide Chapter Network.
"From MacArthur to Manning, the NFF has always attracted many of our nation's greatest leaders in support of our mission," said NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell. "And they have all shared our strong belief that college football plays a unique role in preparing young people for success later in life. The NFF has survived the test of time with flying colors, and we wanted to note this significant milestone by paying homage to all of those who have contributed during the past seven decades with a special commemorative logo."
The NFF's 70th anniversary logo was created by The Marketing Arm and its Dallas office. As it prepares to celebrate its 70th anniversary, the NFF currently has an Annual Awards Dinner that will celebrate its 60th anniversary in December, a state-of-the-art College Football Hall of Fame near Atlanta's Centennial Park, an extensive scholarship program that has distributed more than $30 million since 1959 (including its centerpiece The William V. Campbell Trophy, presented by Fidelity Investments), and a local Chapter Network with 120 outposts in 47 states, annually reaching more than 5,000 high schools and 500,000 student-athletes.
