ORLANDO -- Jameer Nelson is only 10 assists away from becoming the Orlando Magic franchise assist leader, which is currently held by Scott Skyles with 2,776 assist in a Magic uniform.
The Magic will take on the New York Knicks tonight as they look to snap a season high 7-game losing streak.
The losing streak includes losses to the NBA worst Washington Wizards, as well as the New Orleans Hornets, Utah Jazz, and Chicago Bulls. Orlando also lost two game to the Toronto Raptors during the streak, while also taking the defending champion Miami Heat into overtime.
“Not one time have I mentioned out record,” said Magic head coach Jacque Vaughn about how he motivates his team. “Like tonight we’ll talk about New York and how we’re going to try to win this game.”
The Knicks enter the game a half game behind the Heat for first place in the Eastern Conference. A win tonight would momentarily put New York a half game up on Miami.
Orlando lost 99-89 to the Knicks in New York last time they played in mid-november.
“I’m excited about tonight,” said Vaughn before the game. “This is a great challenge for us, and continues to test our resolve, and our character and how we can continue to respond.”
During the losing streak the Magic have lost some close games, including back-to-back two-point losses at home.
“The efforts been great,” said Vaughn about the way his team has played during the losing streak. “I think it’s just a true sign of the men that we have in the locker room.”
The Magic tip-off against the Knicks at 7:00 p.m EST from the Amway Center in Orlando.
